Accreditation for UCC’s MSc and M.Phil. Customs Administration programmes revoked

October 8, 2025
ucc

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has with immediate effect withdrawn the accreditation of two postgraduate programmes offered by the University of Cape Coast (UCC) — the MSc Customs Administration and the M.Phil. Customs Administration.

GTEC explained that it withdrew the accreditation for the two programmes because the school decided to run the programmes in formats that differed from the approved mode of instruction.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the Acting Vice Chancellor of UCC and signed by GTEC’s Director-General, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, on October 6, 2025.

The Commission also copied the Commissioner of Customs of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), indicating that any certificates issued under the affected programmes will not be recognised.

GTEC noted that the two programmes were accredited to be taught in regular and in-person mode.

However, the University is running them as sandwich and fully online programmes without seeking prior approval from the Commission.

“The decision is informed by the fact that, as you are aware, accreditation for these programmes was granted to be taught in regular and in-person mode. However, the University of Cape Coast, without recourse to GTEC, has commenced delivering these programmes as sandwich and 100% online,” the letter stated.

It also directed the University to withdraw all admissions granted under the de-accredited programmes and to provide proof of compliance by October 31, 2025.
