The Minister for Communications, Digitalisation and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George has called for a review of the age limit for applicants to join the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The lawmaker who represents the constituents of Ningo-Prampram believes there are Ghanaians who are above 30 years but physically and mentally fit to be recruited into the forces to serve the country.
Mr. Nartey George made the suggestion in a Facebook post.
He wants the upper age limit to be increased to 35 years to allow for those who are physically and mentally fit to be recruited to join the service.
The Member of Parliament argued that there is precedence across the world where people above 30 years are recruited to join the security forces and Ghana can learn from that example.
Below is his full statement
I honestly believe it is time for our beloved Nation to re-examine the maximum age for enlistment into our military services.
There are people in their 30s who are physically fit and sound enough to serve their Nation. We must not deny them this opportunity simply because of their age.
There is precedence across the world. I believe an upper limit of 35 years would serve our young people better. Let’s nurture their dreams and not kill it.
For God and Country. ????????????
