Reports that we owe 300 workers ten months’ salaries are false – YEA

October 9, 2025
Basintale

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has denied claims that it owes 300 of its staff ten months of unpaid salaries.

A statement signed by Suadique Musah, Director of Corporate Affairs, explained that all legitimate employees on its approved payroll have been paid consistently from February to September 2025.

It was in response to concerns raised by some workers who are claiming that they are owed ten months’ salary arrears.

The said workers accused the agency of neglect and frustration.

However, the statement from YEA indicated that Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale, who assumed office in February 2025, inherited the existing payroll approved by the YEA Board, and no verified employee has been excluded from salary payments since then.

It also disclosed that a comprehensive staff audit was conducted earlier this year to maintain payroll integrity and safeguard public funds.

Those who were successfully verified as legitimate workers, it stated, have been paid and are not owed arrears.

The statement further revealed that workers whose contracts expired before the CEO’s appointment were required to reapply.

Those whose contracts were renewed have since been placed on the payroll, the statement added.
