The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso Central Constituency, Mr. Bismark Boateng, has made a fervent appeal to party members, particularly the supporters of the various aspirants contesting the presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, urging them not to allow the contest to create divisions within the party.
He stressed the importance of post-primary unity, stating that all members must certainly come together after the contest to rally robustly behind the individual who emerges as the presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
The Constituency Chairman noted that it is imperative for every member of the party to remember that the NPP possesses the capacity to return to power in 2029, but that this ambition cannot be achieved with a divided front.
Mr. Boateng, who has publicly declared his support for the former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, suggested that the national leadership should have issued a directive barring executives at all levels from publicly declaring their support for any of the candidates.
He admitted that, considering his position as a Constituency Chairman, he had initially intended to maintain a neutral stance.
However, given the environment of widespread declarations of support, he felt compelled to step forward and declare his allegiance to Mr. Agyapong, whom he considers the most marketable and favored candidate with the requisite skills to provide effective leadership as both a candidate and president.
Speaking in a recent interview with Kwabena Agyapong on the “Frontline” programme on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Bismark Boateng reiterated: “We need to maintain unity if we are to secure victory in 2028. Political parties thrive on unity to survive. I therefore appeal to all NPP members to remain steadfastly united. Regardless of our affiliations, we must not be divided. We should not allow this contest to fracture our front. No matter the outcome, only one person will emerge as the party’s flagbearer. Our decision to support a candidate should not translate into enmity. We will certainly need one another after the primaries.”
He called call for decorum: “Let’s avoid the use of intemperate language, vilification, insults, and ‘dirty’ politics. With God on our side, we shall certainly secure victory in 2028.”
