Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has advised the government and aspiring presidential candidates contesting the presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct their campaigns in a healthy and issue-based manner.
He admonished them to ensure that their campaigns focus on presenting their visions to the party delegates.
The former President made the call on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, when he hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the NPP at his private residence in Nima, Accra.
The meeting was convened by the former President to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026, and to underscore the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections.
He commended the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with him.
Mr. Akufo-Addo noted that their presence was a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.
He encouraged them to conduct their campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner that focuses on presenting their visions to the party delegates.
He expressed his commitment to party unity, the credibility of the process, and to working towards a properly energized and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, the five aspirants gave their personal assurance, and that of their campaign teams, to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere. They also promised to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.
A statement issued and signed by Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson to Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, indicated that the meeting was attended by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (Host), Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders, Mr. Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, MP, Minority Leader, and Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Former Chief of Staff, Office of the President.
All five aspirants, namely Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osel Adutwum, MP, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, were also in attendance.
