The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has stated that if he had his own way, every constituency in the country would have its own permanent DVLA office.
He was responding to concerns raised by some listeners on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM regarding the lack of DVLA offices in their areas.
He stated that when he assumed office, there were three regions without a single office: namely, Oti Region, North East, and Savannah.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the Ashanti Region has the highest number of offices but that it was still not enough.
Julius Neequaye Kotey said, “When I assumed office, there were three regions without a single office. Currently, as we speak, the Oti Region has no single DVLA office, North East has no single DVLA office. Savannah Region had no single office until I opened the Bole office. So you can imagine what they are going through as compared to those who have two, three, or one. The Ashanti Region has the highest number of offices. They have eight, but it is even still not enough.
‘’If I had my own will, quote me, every constituency in Ghana will have a DVLA office, just like NADMO is operated in every district. But the maintenance of our office is very expensive. I understand the pain that those without DVLA offices go through. But I want to assure them that we will do everything possible to bring DVLA closer to those who do not have offices.”
He announced that plans are underway to establish a DVLA office in the Oti Region with Dambai and Kete Krachi identified as the possible locations.
He added that the DVLA is also considering establishing offices in the North East Region, Upper East, Northern, and other regions.
”I will encourage Ghanaians to keep praying for President John Dramani Mahama so he will be able to establish these new offices in the areas without one. Whatever we have set out to do, we will certainly deliver on them,” he added.
