The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with a shooting incident that left six civilians and three police officers injured.
The shooting incident occurred during burial and funeral rites of six family members in Asamankese on Sunday, October 26.
According to the police, they received information that firearms and cartridges were being brought into a room near the chief’s palace.
Officers dispatched to the scene recovered a single-barrel gun, 84 live AAA cartridges, seven cutlasses, and two knives.
The suspects – identified as Isaac Ntim, Nana Yaw Zenyo, Bismark K. K. Adam, 29, and Buaben Richard, 25 – were taken into custody. However, some agitated youths attacked police officers with stones and other objects, leaving three officers with injuries to their heads and hands.
The windshields and side glass of two police vehicles were destroyed in the process. During the unrest, the youths blocked roads at the Asamankese-Akroso junction and near the chief’s palace, firing guns indiscriminately.
Six civilians were injured. The victims – David Odame, 28; Musah Gyakweli, 29; Patrick Ofosu; Obeng Emmanuel, 18; Asamoah Sey, 18; and one unidentified person – were shot and are currently receiving treatment at Asamankese Government Hospital.
