Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Amasaman, Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, has issued an apology to his constituents regarding promises that were not fulfilled during his tenure.
The former lawmaker specifically cited commitments made concerning road infrastructure that he failed to deliver, despite engaging in extensive lobbying efforts to have the projects finalised.
Appearing on the “Frontline” program on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Afrifa-Mensa admitted he could have achieved more and formally apologised for any outstanding pledges.
“I want to use this opportunity to extend my profound gratitude to the constituents for giving me the honour to serve them as their Member of Parliament. I know they had higher expectations, and I will admit that I could not fulfil all my promises. Therefore, I want to apologise to them. Please, forgive me,” he stated. “It was part of my shortcomings. When campaigning, we make promises; however, sometimes challenges may confront us and prevent us from achieving them.”
He acknowledged that he was honoured to have served the people of the constituency, who afforded him the opportunity without demanding monetary compensation.
Mr. Afrifa-Mensa told host Kwabena Agyapong that his “deepest regret” was his inability to secure the fixing of several major roads in the constituency. “Roads in Pokuase, Mayera, Adusa, Quarters, and others are some of the roads that gave me nightmares,” he confessed. “I did my best to have these roads fixed. I lobbied and went to the former President and the former Roads Minister, but my efforts could not see the light of day. It reached a point where it became difficult, and that remains my deepest regret.”
He subsequently urged and admonished the current administration to prioritize working on the deplorable roads in the constituency to provide the residents with relief.
Despite these infrastructure challenges, he also highlighted that he invested significantly in key educational and other critical projects that brought a measure of comfort to the constituents during his term.
