A 49-year-old fisherman, Samuel Armah, who defiled a 13-year-old girl after accusing her of stealing his money at Mumford in the Central Region, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
He was sentenced by the Cape Coast Circuit Court 2, presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quaiba Nunoo.
The fisherman, a father of nine, pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement, contrary to Section 101(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
He will serve his sentence at the Ankaful Prisons.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Isaac Evans Entie, the incident occurred in a ghetto at Mumford, where the accused lured the victim after accusing her of stealing GH₵60 and subsequently sexually assaulted her.
The victim later reported the incident, leading to the arrest and prosecution of the accused. Medical reports confirmed the assault.
The presiding judge described the act as ‘shameful and inhumane.’
She also stressed the need for deterrent sentences in cases involving minors while admonishing the society to protect children from such predatory acts.
