The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Kwesi Afreh Biney, has expressed his desire to position SSNIT as an organisation that Ghanaians can trust.

He emphasised that the core mandate of SSNIT is to provide income security and retirement dignity for the people of Ghana.

Mr Afreh Biney stated that he aims to establish SSNIT as an institution that garners the trust of the people.

He made these remarks at the 2025 Media Connect held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, where management engaged with journalists on SSNIT’s activities, challenges, gains, and future plans.

According to him, he wants to leave a legacy where SSNIT has seen significant improvements in its investments and returns.

He also aims to increase the number of contributors in both the formal and informal sectors.

Furthermore, he wants to see staff who take pride in working for the Trust while being enthusiastic about its prospects.

“I want to see an organisation that the Ghanaian worker has trust in. In fact, our core mandate is to provide income security and provide retirement dignity for the Ghanaian people. So that is where I want to see the trust, where people have confidence in what it is that we offer. I want to see an SSNIT at the time I am leaving; I should see significant improvements from our investments and the returns from our investments. I want to see a strong showing not just in the formal sector but in the informal sector as well.

I want to see a trust that has lovely men and women working for the trust who are proud to work for the trust and are excited about the prospects that the trust offers the people that we work with.”

On the issue of the SSNIT hotels, he stated that there is absolutely no need to sell them or any of its shares.

He cited Labadi Beach Hotel as an example, assuring it will continue to remain 100 per cent owned by SSNIT because he believes they will be able to generate more returns.

But he admitted that the likes of Elmina and La Palm would require significant capital injection, and for that reason, partnership was crucial.

He disclosed plans by SSNIT to expand and remodel these hotels as part of efforts to enhance returns and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the pension fund.

He stressed that the plan is also to focus on transforming these hotels into a modern facility that could deliver stronger returns and contribute more effectively to SSNIT’s total assets under management.
