A Deputy Communication Officer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asserted that the aspiring presidential candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, is the only politician among the current contenders with the solid track record and honesty required to secure victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking with Sir Richie, host of ‘As It Is in Ghana’ on Rainbow Radio 92.4 FM in the United Kingdom, the officer stated that Mr. Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, is the politician poised to significantly shake the foundation of Ghanaian politics.
He described Mr. Agyapong as a humanitarian who is deeply compassionate about Ghana’s development, dedicated, and committed, maintaining that he is the individual destined to bring the party victory.
“Kennedy Agyapong is destined to secure us victory. He is the one the presidential candidate seat in the NPP prefers, and there is nothing we can do about it. The delegates will elect him on January 31, 2026, and we will have a candidate for 2028, securing that victory we all want in the NPP. Kennedy Agyapong is the only one in the NPP who is very honest. He is the only one among the lots who is credible and straightforward and can point out indiscipline even among his own ministers.”
The officer further asserted that, for the first time in NPP’s history, Ghanaians themselves have demanded a choice of presidential candidate in the person of Kennedy Agyapong.
He issued a stark warning that without Mr. Agyapong leading the ticket, the NPP risks being relegated to the opposition benches for potentially five decades.
“Ghanaians have demanded that we file Kennedy Agyapong as our candidate for 2028. This is the first time Ghanaians are demanding a particular candidate. It tells you that if we fail to do that, we risk being in opposition for more than 50 years. Therefore, the only thing we can do is elect Kennedy Agyapong as our candidate for 2028. We are well aware that the delegates have already made up their minds.”
Critiquing other aspirants, he noted that the candidate who represented the party in 2024 had promised to secure all the votes in the Zongo communities. However, the party ultimately lost significant votes in these communities and the Northern region, including within the Muslim communities, suggesting that candidate is not positioned to secure victory.
He concluded by adding that, despite the assurances given by the former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ensure stability of the Cedi and the economy, the currency experienced the opposite, which he claimed angered the electorate. Submitting the same candidate again in 2028, the officer warned, would be a “terrible political decision.”
