The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called for swift investigations into the attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Bronikrom, near Hwediem, in the Ahafo Region.

A statement issued by the Minister on Monday, November 3, 2025, condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable and a direct affront to law enforcement efforts.

The NAIMOS Director and his team were attacked by an angry mob after they had intercepted illegal miners operating in the area.
The violent attack happened on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

NAIMOS had arrested suspected illegal miners and retrieved key exhibits, including a Smith & Wesson pistol, ammunition, two pistol magazines, an unregistered Range Rover, an unregistered Toyota RAV4, and several mobile phones.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has since directed the Criminal Investigations Department to probe the matter.
Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in his statement asked that all those behind the violent attack must be arrested and prosecuted.

“This aligns with the government’s firm commitment to bring to book all perpetrators who aid, support, or front the continuous decimation of the environment,” the statement read.
