The official fare for the Santasi to Ahenema Kokobeng route is GH¢4, but the drivers were allegedly demanding GH¢10, causing significant distress and inconvenience to commuters on that stretch.

Mr. Sampson Dadzie, the Leader of the taskforce, confirmed that all arrested drivers will be processed for court and subsequent prosecution. He indicated that the operation was launched due to the consistent flow of complaints from passengers regarding the illegal fare hikes.

Detailing the action, Mr. Dadzie stated: “We have impounded 21 vehicles so far for charging unapproved fares.

“The price of fuel has not been increased, so we see no justification whatsoever for this hike in fares. We will proceed to process this matter for court. We also use this opportunity to advise the Ghanaian public to remain vigilant and report such drivers. To the drivers, they must desist from overcharging passengers, or they will face immediate arrest and prosecution.”

Commuters who spoke with Rainbow Radio’s Abdul Malik Anokye lauded the security taskforce for the timely intervention. They urged the KMA to sustain this enforcement exercise to deter future violations.
