The 2024 Best Fish Farmer, Ebenezer Nyagble Dzikunu, and five fellow award recipients have publicly alleged that they have yet to receive their promised prize packages, months after the official ceremony.
Mr. Dzikunu reports that his main prize, a 3-tonne JAC truck, remains undelivered nearly a year after the National Farmers Awards event.
He confirmed that a total of six winners are currently facing the same protracted delay in receiving their incentives.
Following the awards ceremony held in December 2024, the organizers assured the winners of prompt prize delivery.
However, when the group reported on February 12 of this year to allegedly collect the prizes, they were only shown waybills and chassis numbers for vehicles and told that final administrative documentation was pending before delivery could proceed.
Since that meeting, the awardees claim they have received no further communication from the responsible Ministry.
Mr. Dzikunu expressed frustration over the administrative deadlock, questioning why the prizes awarded under the previous administration have seemingly become an unresolved burden for the current government.
He further noted the personal engagement of the relevant Minister at the time, who had paid a working visit to his farm in the Volta region.
Attempts by the winners to engage Ministry officials regarding the outstanding prizes have been unsuccessful.
With the next edition of the National Farmers Awards fast approaching, the recipients noted they have currently only been given their official certificates.
The other affected winners include Victoria Atsa, National Best Fish Processor of the Year, and Christopher Ackon, National Best Marine Fisherman.
