An Accra High Court has granted bail to Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu, one of the six persons sentenced to death by hanging for attempting to overthrow the government, pending the hearing of his appeal.
He was granted bail to the tune of GH¢2.5 million, with two sureties to be justified, allowing him temporary freedom while his appeal is determined.
The fleet manager was one of six individuals convicted on counts of conspiracy to commit high treason and committing high treason in November 2023.
The court found the group guilty of plotting to destabilise the country and overthrow the constitutionally elected government.
The six convicted persons—Donya Kafui, alias Ezor (a blacksmith); Bright Alan Debrah Ofosu; Johannes Zikpi (a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces); and three soldiers, WO II Esther Saan Dekuwine, L/Cpl Ali Solomon, and Cpl Sylvester Akanpewon—were sentenced to death by hanging following a lengthy trial.
Also charged in the trial but acquitted and discharged were ACP Dr. Benjamin Agordzo (rtd), Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli, and Corporal Seidu Abubakar, who were found not guilty of abetment and conspiracy charges.
