A 60-year-old visually impaired individual, Agya Darteh, has suffered a devastating loss as his 7-bedroom apartment was ravaged by fire.
The incident occurred at Mpatasie in Berekum East.
According to Nana Kwame’s report on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the fire broke out while Agya Darteh was unaware of the danger.
His attention was eventually drawn to the fire, but unfortunately, he was unable to take any action. The reporter noted that efforts to contact the fire service were hindered by the unavailability of functioning equipment at the nearby station, while the next available station arrived without water in their fire tender.
Furthermore, Agya Darteh’s wife, a trader who deals in fabrics, lost several of her wares in the fire while she was at the market.
Nana Kwame also reported that Agya Darteh had lost his son six months prior, which had a profound impact on him as his son was his primary caregiver.
A nurse who resided in the house collapsed upon witnessing the fire and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, but an investigation has commenced to determine the origin of the blaze.
In the meantime, local church leaders have provided Agya Darteh with temporary accommodations while they work on renovating the damaged building. They have also appealed to the Ghanaian public for support.
