Dr. Ato Forson, Acting Defence Minister, has revealed that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has set up an internal board to investigate the circumstances leading to the stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, leading to the death of six persons.
He described the incident as tragic when he appeared before the house to update legislators on the incident.
Parliament has approved Chief Justice nominee Justice Baffoe-Bonnie.
The Minority opposed the approval of the nominee after the report had been submitted at the plenary by the Chairman of the Appointments Committee.
After a voice vote, the Speaker ruled that the Ayes had the votes**,** however**,** the Minority opposed and called for a head count.
Presenting the Committee’s report, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, said Paul Baffoe-Bonnie had demonstrated exceptional competence and integrity and was deserving of the position.
“The Committee therefore recommends to the House by majority decision the adoption of the report for the approval of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana,” the Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, said.
“The Committee is satisfied that the nominee possesses the requisite qualifications, judicial temperament, and commitment to constitutional values expected of the Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana,” he said.
The minority, however, rejected the voice vote and demanded a head count which ended with the Majority recording 169 members while the Minority recorded 63 members.
The Minority caucus then raised objection and called for a division of the votes but the Speaker ruled that it was unnecessarily requested for.
