An applicant involved in the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise (name withheld) has alleged that they were physically assaulted and whipped by soldiers at the El-Wak Sports Stadium on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Speaking on the program “Frontline” on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the applicant stated that the soldiers, overwhelmed by the chaotic situation, resorted to lashing the crowd to gain control. The applicant further told host Kwabena Agyapong that some individuals were bleeding from the wounds inflicted by the soldiers’ lashes.

The applicant admitted that participants had been instructed to enter the stadium in an orderly manner. However, the situation quickly devolved into chaos, resulting in a rush and subsequent stampede.

The individual claimed to have witnessed applicants falling and being stepped on by others.

Details regarding attendance suggested that some applicants arrived as early as 2:00 am.

The source confirmed their personal arrival time was 2:57 am, noting that the gates remained locked despite the early hour.
According to the applicant, the dates provided in the messages they received were ignored by some individuals, who showed up at the stadium before their scheduled time, while others who had not received any confirmation also attended.

The applicant recounted the events: “By 8 am, the number of applicants there had increased to more than 10,000 people. The gate was opened at 6:30 am, and we were asked to enter. However, the situation immediately became chaotic. People fell and could not get up, forcing the soldiers to re-lock the gate. Some sustained injuries.”

They continued, “At a point, the soldiers started lashing us. While they whipped us, some of the applicants started bleeding. The soldiers were overwhelmed by the sheer number of applicants at the gate. They advised us to take our time or people would get hurt, but they then picked up sticks and started hitting us with them.”

The applicant concluded that the incident was avoidable, suggesting the exercise should have been held at a larger venue, such as the Accra Sports Stadium.
