Government has disclosed plans to retool the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as part of efforts to make it more efficient in dealing with emergency situations especially fire outbreaks.
The Service has over the years lamented over the lack of modern fire fighting equipment, including tenders.
Existing tenders, according to the Service, have outlived their lifespan.
Delivering the budget statement on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson said the government will purchase 100 new fire tenders and other equipment for the GNFS.
He said the retooling was necessary because the lack of modern equipment has deprived the GNFS of its ability to effectively ensure public safety.
“Mr. Speaker, the Ghana National Fire Service lacks basic equipment to enable them function effectively in their duty to ensure public safety and to protect lives and property.
To address this unfortunate situation, the government will retool the Ghana National Fire Service by procuring 100 fire tenders and assorted fire equipment for distribution across the country.”
In addition to this retooling initiative, the government plans to work in collaboration with the private sector to bring in high-rise fire fighting equipment.
“Mr. Speaker, the government will also work
with the private sector to bring in high-rise fire equipment.
This will improve the effectiveness of the Ghana National Fire Service to respond to emergencies.”
