Janet Asana Nabla, the National Chairperson of the People’s National Party (PNP), has voiced skepticism regarding the government’s fiscal management, specifically noting that despite the Finance Minister’s efforts, the prices of goods and services continue to rise.
Appearing on the Frontline program on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the politician acknowledged that the 2026 financial year budget was structurally sound.
However, she expressed serious doubt about its practical execution and materialisation.
Ms. Nabla stated that the government failed to achieve its projections outlined in the 2025 budget. She warned that without greater caution and commitment to implementation, the 2026 budget risks a similar outcome.
The PNP Chairperson emphasized the necessity for the government to take concrete steps to implement measures that would alleviate the economic struggles of citizens and improve their living conditions.
Madam Nabla directly challenged the government’s claims of currency stability. She asserted, “Minister Ato Forson is exerting effort, but the prices of goods and services are rising. The government couldn’t achieve its 2025 budget projections. Allocations intended for specific areas were not disbursed. We haven’t witnessed any significant achievements.”
She further noted, “The government claims the Cedi has appreciated, yet the cost of goods and services has increased astronomically.”
Speaking to host Kwabena Agyapong, she contended that the current administration is not genuinely committed to delivering on its promises.
Ms. Nabla argued that the government possesses the ability to deliberately intervene to ensure that businesses reduce their prices, but chooses not to. “The government is not interested in protecting the consumer but is rather focused on protecting the manufacturer,” she stated.
She concluded by stressing that merely scrapping taxes will be ineffective. Lasting change, she argued, requires the government to introduce deliberate laws and regulations that prioritize consumer protection. She added that the government is unwilling to take this step because, in her view, they do not sufficiently respect the consumer.
