Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno expressed deep sorrow about the stampede that occurred during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium, which led to the loss of six lives.
He sent the deepest condolences to the affected families and stood in solidarity with colleagues in the GAF during this difficult time.
However, he called for an overhaul of the recruitment processes for all security agencies.
‘This should not just be about expressing regret; it is about taking responsibility and acting to prevent errors.’
He stated that there was a need to create a ‘safer, fairer, and more efficient system’ that reflects the ‘love and patriotism our young people show.’
He declared that such a tragedy should ‘never happen again’ in the course of national exercises, calling for ‘some reflection and decisive action’.
Mr Tetteh Yohuno maintained that it was important to take a closer look at the recruitment processes to ‘review, reform, and strengthen them’ and identify areas where improvements can be made to ensure the ‘integrity of all’.
