President John Dramani Mahama has formally sworn in Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of Ghana.
The President administered the oath of office to Justice Baffoe-Bonnie on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Jubilee House.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President Mahama on September 23, 2025, in recognition of his extensive experience and long service across the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie assumed the role of acting Chief Justice in April after the suspension of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who was later dismissed following recommendations by the Committee that probed petitions filed against her.
He underwent vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on November 10, 2025, with the majority side of the committee proceeding after the minority boycotted on grounds that his vetting was in breach of the law considering the cases filed by the dismissed chief justice.
Parliament confirmed his appointment on November 13 with 163 votes in favour and 69 against.
