The immediate past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, the Rt. Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, has emphasised that Ghana’s enjoyment of peace, democracy, and stability is largely due to the Church’s significant contributions.
Delivering a sermon at the closing and awards ceremony of the inaugural Ecumenical Convention, organised by the Christian Council on Sunday, November 16, 2025, he stated that while the Church should take pride in its achievements, it must also continue to champion the cause of Christ.
He stressed the importance of unity among Christians, despite their diversity, in order to achieve greater impact.
The Convention, held under the theme ‘Uniting the Body of Christ for Greater Impact’, aimed to strengthen Christian unity across denominations within Ghana and the diaspora.
The Rt. Rev. Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo emphasised that the Church must continue to unite in its efforts to bring the nation together.
As a majority Christian nation, he noted that having a unified purpose and agenda, centred on discipleship, would foster unity.
He opined that unity is characterised by collaboration, partnership, and a shared purpose, which are core values of the Church.
“As a nation, we stand as a beacon of peace, we stand as a beacon of democracy, and we stand in all liveliness; the church is there as a nation. In Ghana, in the West, and even in the world, Christianity serves as a crucial pillar of national identity, national cohesion, and social service delivery. In fact, if Ghana has remained peaceful, if Ghana has remained a beacon of peace and democracy, Christianity has played a very big and vital role in this exercise,” he declared.
He then commended the Christian Council of Ghana for its historically critical role in fostering interdenominational collaboration between established Protestant, Orthodox, and Catholic churches and for often serving as the moral conscience of Ghana.
