Peace Watch Ghana (PWG), a non-governmental organization, has publicly expressed its support for the anticipated nomination of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the substantive Minister for Defence.
The NGO stated it has received information that President John Dramani Mahama has selected the Korley Klottey Member of Parliament for the role and fully endorses this decision.
Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, the Executive Director of PWG, affirmed that the medical doctor and lawmaker possesses the necessary competence required to hold the high office. She believes Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings will excel at the Ministry and should be granted the opportunity.
She conveyed this position during an interview on the program Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM with host Kwabena Agyapong.
As an organization advocating for competent women to be appointed to governmental positions, PWG considers this alleged nomination a positive and strategic move.
Madam Daniels added that the President’s choice would align well with his pledge to grant women top government positions and his commitment to the principles of affirmative action.
“As an organization that supports women’s empowerment, we have gathered information that President John Dramani Mahama has settled on Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as the next Defence Minister. This is amazing news. Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings is not only competent for this position but also an excellent choice. She is a strong female politician. She is a woman of integrity, credibility, and unquestionable character. We are appealing to the President not to change his mind but to maintain this nomination if it is true that he has nominated her.”
The Executive Director’s remarks follow a flurry of social media activity regarding the potential nomination of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings for the Defence Minister role.
The position became vacant following the tragic death of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the former Minister, who perished along with seven others in the August 6 helicopter crash incident.
