The National Association of Assembly Members has revealed that they have received only two months of the allowances they were promised by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr. Ackah Nelson, National President, revealed that the allowance is GHC1,300 instead of the GHC1,500 promised them by President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Mr. Nelson said the two months paid are those for April and May, with June, July, August, September, October, and November outstanding. He also stated that they paid a 10 percent tax on the GHC1,300 (GHC 130).
When asked if they have been informed of the reasons why the monthly allowance has been delayed, he said they have engaged authorities over the matter but have not been informed of the reasons for the delay.
The GHC 1,300 is a new initiative launched to strengthen local governance and improve project monitoring. This monthly consolidated allowance, which is paid to both elected and appointed members, is part of the ‘Resetting Ghana Agenda’ and was officially started in July 2025.
In the 2025 budget statement, the government allocated a total of GHC 100 million for this purpose and has already disbursed payments for April and May 2025.
Another GHC 100 million has been captured in the 2026 budget statement.
The amount is to enhance the effectiveness of Assembly Members in carrying out their duties, including the monitoring of government projects, and to strengthen local governance. ‘We have received two months’ pay.
The amounts covered April and May. We also pay a 10 percent tax on the amount every month.’ Mr. Ackah Nelson also noted that the pledged motorcycles have not been fulfilled.
