Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has outlined the ministry’s strategy for developing a new foreign policy document, aligning with the 2020 National Security Strategy.
Speaking in Parliament, Hon. Ablakwa stated that the policy aims to restore Ghana’s global influence, promote economic development, and address security needs. The draft policy emphasises economic diplomacy, trade, investment, digital transformation, clean energy, and youth employment.
Hon. Ablakwa was responding to a question by the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency, Hon. Frank Asiedu Bekoe, who asked about the strategy of the ministry regarding the new foreign policy documents, specifically in relation to the 2020 National Security Strategy.
Key components of the draft policy he listed include:
– Political and diplomatic engagement
– Economic diplomacy
– Security and defence cooperation
– Culture and diaspora diplomacy
– Environmental and climate diplomacy
– Multilateral and regional engagement
The policy will be finalised at a stakeholder workshop on December 8-9, 2025, and is expected to serve as a strategic framework for Ghana’s foreign policy practitioners to promote and protect national interests.
