Member of Parliament for the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira Constituency, Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam, has advised the Minister of Agriculture to undertake a trip to Asian countries to learn best practices on oil palm production.
The MP noted that Malaysia has developed 35 products from oil palm and uses a different seedling than the one used in Ghana.
The former CEO for Exim Bank expressed concerns about the government’s oil palm production initiative, stating that it takes 4-7 years for an oil palm to be harvested, and questioned the feasibility of the promised jobs.
He also raised questions about the procurement of machines, spare parts, and the operational mechanism of the project, emphasising that these details are not in the budget.
Additionally, Hon. Agyinsam expressed concerns about the implementation of the project, citing the example of previous farm service centres, and asked about the government’s plans regarding the IMF programme, questioning whether Ghana will continue with the programme or not.
