Samuel Koku Anyidoho, Founder & CEO, MILLS Institute, is part of the ECOWAS Elections Observation Mission currently in Guinea-Bissau for the ongoing presidential and legislative elections taking place today, Sunday, November 23, 2025.
Mr Anyidoho is part of a 15-member core long-term team that has been working in the country for more than a week.

Another 120 short-term observers are also working all over the country to ensure that ECOWAS has its eyes and ears spread across to ensure very effective observation of the process.
Ghana’s Ambassador Baba Kamara is the overall Head of the ECOWAS Mission.

Ambassador Baba Kamara was High Commissioner to Nigeria under President Atta-Mills and National Security Advisor during the first term of President Mahama. He is currently the ECOWAS Special Envoy for Counterterrorism since July 2023.
Guinea-Bissau is holding its first-ever home-funded elections, with 12 candidates vying for the presidency.

The incumbent, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and the main opposition leader, Fernando Diaz, of the Party for Social Renewal (PRS), are the frontrunners.
Guinea-Bissau has had lots of political turbulence since its independence in 1974, and this is the first time a president is serving out a full term and seeking reelection via the ballot box.
Guinea-Bissau has a population of 2.2 million, and 967,152 are the registered voters.

Gabu, Oio, Bafata, Cacheu, Biombo, Tombali & Quinara are the regions in Guinea-Bissau, and all regions are participating with the Electoral Commission, making available all the voting material.
Guinea-Bissau is the home of Amílcar Cabral, a prominent politician and freedom fighter who fought for independence from Portugal.
Other international observers include the African Union and the West African Council of Elders, headed by former President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria.

Koku Anyidoho has previously been part of ECOWAS Observation Missions to Guinea Conakry, Benin, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Senegal.
Mr Anyidoho is a trained, experienced and accredited international elections observer by the world-acclaimed Electoral Institute for Sustainable Development (EISA), based in South Africa.
