Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, a worker with the Electoral Commission, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to initiate the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, and her two deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, on grounds of alleged misconduct.
According to the petitioner, the alleged misconduct threatens the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.
Mr. Adumadzie, in a statement issued on Monday, November 24, indicated that he filed the petition in line with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the procedure for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.
He revealed that his petition contains 12 counts of stated misbehavior, including alleged cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
He further alleged that the alleged misconduct of the three senior officials has eroded public confidence in the Electoral Commission and poses a risk to the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.
According to him, his petition was to help safeguard the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance, emphasizing the need to protect the dignity of the Electoral Commission, which is essential to ensuring a credible democratic system.
Meanwhile, he had called on the President to refer the petition to the Chief Justice for the establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with Article 146 procedures.
