An angry mob has exerted instant justice, leading to the death of two suspected thieves accused of killing and robbing a motor rider of his bike.
The incident occurred at Mepom in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region.
Reporting the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Prince Collins Bening stated the two suspected thieves were accused of hiring the services of an Okada rider.
He said the two came to the Okada station in the area and hired the services of the 17-year-old rider identified as Baba, claiming to be masons going to a site to work.
But upon reaching the said site, the two individuals threatened the rider and asked him to hand over his motorbike, which was a rare one and had been given to him by a friend.
The situation escalated, following which the two masons used a hammer to hit the young rider in the jaw, tied him up, and allegedly killed him.
The two then stole his motor, but while on their way, the owner of the motor saw them and questioned why they had his motor.
They told the owner that the motor was theirs and they had come into the area to work.However, the owner of the motor pushed further, and the two made an attempt to run, but the owner of the motor raised an alarm.
One of the two individuals was arrested and beaten before he confessed that they had killed Baba and dumped his body in the bush.
He was then assaulted and killed by the angry mob.The angry mob then went into a search for the other man and apprehended him.He was also beaten to death; his body was almost dismembered.
The police were informed and rushed to the scene only to meet the bodies of the deceased suspects and the rider.
The bodies of the two suspected thieves were deposited at the mortuary, while Baba, the rider, was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
No arrests have been made so far, but according to the reporter, the residents have claimed that they will continue to take the law into their hands against thieves who have for a long time robbed them.
