The Eastern South Regional Police Command has appealed to the public and residents of the Eastern Region to remain calm, assuring them that the police are committed to protecting lives and property in the area.
Commander, DCOP George Bossman Ohene-Boadi, who made the appeal, also called on the residents to report any suspicious activities to the Police.
He stated this while addressing journalists after the arrest of a Nigerian national who had fled to Ghana after allegedly killing a mother and her daughter in Nigeria.
The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum.
He was arrested in Akwatia. He is wanted in connection with the abduction and murder of a lady, who was a member of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
According to DCOP Ohene-Boadi, the suspect fled to Ghana and was hiding in Akyem Wenchi, in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region.
The police received a tip-off and launched an intelligence-led operation, arresting Fejemirokum at his hideout.
He is currently in police custody, and efforts are underway to extradite him to Nigeria to face justice.
He then appealed to the residents to always be alert and report any suspicious behaviour or activities in order for the security agencies to deal with those behind them.
Commander, DCOP George Bossman Ohene-Boadi assured the residents that the Police remain committed to dealing with criminal activities but would need the support of the Ghanaian public in dealing with the matter.
“We are appealing to the residents to always be on the alert and report any suspicious activity or suspicious behaviour so it would be investigated. Enforcing the law, protecting lives and property, and dealing with crime is a collective responsibility. Without your support, we cannot achieve that. So we are appealing to you to support us in clamping down on crime. As we prepare for Christmas, criminals would want to take advantage of that and engage in crime, but we want to assure them that the Police are prepared to deal with these criminals.”
