Hon. Peter Kwasi Nortsu-Kotoe, MP for Akatsi North Constituency, revealed that Senior High Schools (SHSs) nationwide faced a food shortage risk in January 2025 due to inadequate provisions by the previous government.
The lawmaker, who disclosed this on the floor of Parliament, indicated that the situation was critical, and students would have gone hungry without immediate intervention.
According to him, the Chief of Staff promptly established a committee to arrange emergency food supplies for the affected schools.
He has therefore expressed gratitude to the Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools for their vital role in managing the situation.
The MP said that food item procurement for SHSs has been decentralised, eliminating dependence on Buffer Stock for food supply from Accra to schools in Tamale, Wa, and Akatsi.
He also disclosed that the government has released GH¢51 million to support Senior High Schools across the country.
