The Government of Ghana has denounced the military takeover in Guinea-Bissau as an unconstitutional act that jeopardises democratic governance in the West African nation.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa issued a statement on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, stating that Ghana strongly condemns the takeover.
He noted that this action disrupts the electoral process following the peaceful presidential and legislative elections held on November 23.
The Ghanaian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, indicated that the takeover undermines the democratic will of the people of Guinea-Bissau.
He added that the takeover has obstructed the anticipated announcement of the election results scheduled for November 27, 2025.
The Minister urged all parties involved to utilize peaceful, transparent, and legally recognized avenues to resolve any electoral grievances.
Additionally, he called for the immediate restoration of constitutional order and emphasized the need to protect the rights and security of both citizens and foreign nationals.
