The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, has referred Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities for investigation into alleged contempt of parliament.
The decision by the Speaker follows a formal complaint lodged by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, alleging Afenyo-Markin attended an ECOWAS Parliament session in Nigeria despite being excluded from Ghana’s delegation.
The complaint was brought under Orders 30 and 31 of the Standing Orders.
Mahama Ayariga had argued that Afenyo-Markin’s actions undermine parliament’s authority and dignity.
In his ruling, Speaker Bagbin asked the committee to examine the facts, review actions taken, and determine if Afenyo-Markin’s conduct constitutes contempt or breach of privilege.
