Hon. Lawrence Agyinsam, Member of Parliament for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira and former CEO of Ghana Axim Bank, has criticised the 2026 Budget, stating it lacks clarity and credibility.
He expressed concerns over the accuracy of allocations and expenditures, accusing the Finance Minister of repeating allocations from the 2025 Budget.
Hon. Agyinsam, addressing the media, questioned the logic behind increasing allocations in the 2026 budget when previous funds remained unspent.
He emphasised that sectors like industry and tourism have the potential to drive Ghana’s economic growth but lamented the government’s lack of focus on these areas.
He specifically highlighted the tourism sector’s potential to create jobs and generate revenue, citing the paltry allocation of 245 billion cedis as inadequate.
Hon. Agyinsam contrasted this with the 400 billion cedis allocated for sanitary pads for student girls, questioning priorities.
The MP also accused the government of collapsing the Year of Return policy, which had previously benefited Ghana’s economy. He urged the government to refocus on sectors with genuine growth potential.
