The Management of Ghana Water Ltd. (GWL), Accra West Region, has announced a temporary shutdown of the Weija Treatment Plant to facilitate repair works on a faulty pipeline on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
According to a statement released by GWCL on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, one of the major pipelines supplying water from the Treatment Plant to western Accra has developed severe perforations.
The statement explained that if left unrepaired, the fault could cause a total pipeline breakdown.
The repair works are scheduled to take place between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. Areas expected to be affected include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, North Industrial Area, and surrounding communities.
GWCL apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public that water production would resume immediately after the completion of the repair works.
“While we assure customers of resumption of production as soon as the work is completed, we also encourage them to store water ahead of the shutdown.
We regret the inconvenience that may arise as a result of the shutdown.”
