The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak joined the Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, in commissioning a new batch of officer cadets into the Ghana Prisons Service, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the institution.
Speaking at the Graduation Parade of Officer Cadet Course Intake 32 at the Prisons Officers Training School, the Vice President emphasised the government’s commitment to equip the service with the right personnel and resources to carry out its mandate.
The Vice President highlighted key policy decisions, including an increase in the feeding allocation for inmates from GHC1.80 to GH$5.00, aimed at ensuring humane treatment of inmates.
She also announced the launch of the Think 360 Degrees Prisons Initiative, which aims to combine humanitarian and developmental objectives, prioritising officer and inmate welfare, agricultural mechanisation, and vocational training.
The initiative also aims to create sustainable jobs, generate revenue, and ensure inmates are reintegrated into society.
H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang charged the graduating officer cadets to serve with integrity, discipline, and hard work, and officially declared them commissioned into the senior corps of the Ghana Prisons Service.
