President John Dramani Mahama has presented 40 new armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service.
The vehicles are intended to bolster operational capacity and enhance public safety nationwide.
The handover ceremony occurred on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
In his remarks, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu noted that the vehicles will be strategically deployed and properly maintained to achieve their intended objectives, while commending the government for its support.
“We wish to sincerely express our profound gratitude to the government for thinking about us and prioritising our welfare. Our assurance to you is that the vehicles will be well-maintained and strategically deployed to achieve the intended objectives,” he said.
He added that the new vehicles would significantly enhance the service’s ability to respond to emergencies, secure communities, and maintain law and order.
On his part, Interior Minister Muntala Mohammed-Mubarak expressed gratitude to the President.
He stated that the Ministry is fully aligned with the President’s agenda to establish a more modern, intelligent, responsive, and well-equipped internal security architecture.
He emphasised that their mandate is to ensure every agency under the Ministry, including the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Immigration, NADMO, and others, is adequately equipped to carry out its duties.
President John Dramani in his address commended the Inspector General of Police, the Service, the Police Board, and the officers, stating that they are doing a good job.
He said our highways are getting safer because the police are arresting highway robbers. He went on to also commend the Police CID for bringing criminals to book.
He announced the forty vehicles are the first batch, adding that the Service will also receive two tow trucks and ten covert operational vehicles. He also noted that every police district will get vehicles for patrol duties, drones, among other equipment to enhance their work.
