Security analyst Irbard Ibrahim has urged Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno to enhance police presence.
He acknowledged that the current IGP has made significant strides in improving the general safety of Ghanaians but noted that police visibility has been inadequate under his tenure.
Irbard Ibrahim conceded that the police have achieved notable successes under the current IGP, including the arrest of several criminals, dismantling of criminal syndicates and gangs, and centralising police communication, which he commended as outstanding accomplishments.
Nevertheless, the analyst advised the IGP to prioritise improving police visibility, which he currently assesses as deficient and conducive to an environment where criminals can operate with greater ease.
He emphasised that if additional resources are required to augment police visibility, they should be allocated to the service immediately.
“The current IGP has done his best, but where there are deficiencies is that visibility is currently poor. The police must improve visibility. If the budget allocated to the IGP is inadequate, it must be increased so he and his officers will improve visibility. Visibility deters crime, and that was absolutely missing during his time as IGP.”
