Joseph Asare Bediako, the head coach of Division One side New Edubiase United, has offered a bold prediction for Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, asserting that both Ghana and Panama will secure qualification to the knockout stages.
Ghana finds itself in a challenging Group L alongside heavyweight contenders England and Croatia, as well as Panama. Despite the quality of their opponents, Bediako remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances.
The coach firmly rejected claims that England poses an insurmountable challenge, particularly suggestions that the Three Lions would defeat Ghana by a large margin.
“The group Ghana has been drawn into is favourable,” Bediako stated. “I have heard some analysts suggest England will defeat us by over six goals, but I do not believe that is possible.”
He acknowledged the undeniable talent within the English squad, noting their roster is composed of “quality stars who play in the Premier League and other top leagues across the world.”
However, he believes the nature of England’s tactical approach will ultimately work against them.
“The style of play they employ will create problems for them, despite the quality players they possess. They cannot defeat us,” he asserted emphatically.
Mr Bediako stressed that Ghana must exercise caution and not fall into the trap of underestimating the Panamanian side, predicting they could be a tough challenge.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports, the coach warned: “Ghana must tread cautiously because they [Panama] may give us a very difficult time.” When you underrate a team, they can inflict significant damage. Seeing them as underdogs could spell doom for us.”
When pressed on Ghana’s probability of advancing, Bediako gave the Black Stars a high likelihood of success.
“We have a 70 per cent chance of qualifying from the group stage,” he affirmed. “We must prepare thoroughly as a team. We should not over-concentrate on England. We have to approach every single game with a winning strategy and, crucially, avoid underestimating any opponent.”
The New Edubiase coach reiterated his belief in the squad’s capability, affirming that with dedication and the right approach to all three fixtures, Ghana and Panama could emerge as the two qualifying teams from the group.
