Nana Bonsu, a political commentator, has issued a direct appeal to officials of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), urging them to uphold the highest standards of professional integrity in their work.
He stressed the critical importance of GRA staff and those in its allied agencies offering their full support to the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, to ensure the successful achievement of his objectives.
Mr Bonsu asserted that all officials must demonstrate unwavering patriotism and integrity, proactively avoiding any actions that could undermine the vital mandate of the GRA.
Speaking recently on the Frontline programme on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he expressed confidence in the new Commissioner-General’s capabilities.
“The new Commissioner-General possesses the necessary attributes to transform the GRA, and he deserves the full, unreserved support of every stakeholder,” he stated.
”The Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Anthony Kwasi Sarpong, is a man of integrity. He remains committed to discharging his duties in a manner that will truly transform the GRA. He needs our support to succeed. Furthermore, we, as citizens, have a corresponding duty to comply with our tax obligations so that Ghana can develop,” Mr Bonsu said.
He strongly urged GRA staff to be guided strictly by their professional obligations. “I encourage them to desist from all forms of acts that will undermine the work of the GRA. It is imperative that they acknowledge the necessity of not conniving with businesses or individuals to deprive the state of its legitimate taxes.”
Addressing customs officers specifically, Mr Bonsu advised them to maintain professional conduct at all times. “They should concentrate diligently on the responsibilities they have been assigned and must not engage in corrupt practices that generate negative publicity for the GRA. The presence of corruption among some Customs officers is a serious issue that we must collectively strive to address and eradicate.”
