The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will rerun the Kpandai parliamentary election on December 30, 2025, following the order by the Tamale High Court.
“The Electoral Commission will hold a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in the Kpandai Constituency on Tuesday, 30 December, 2025.”
A statement issued by the EC noted that only three candidates would be contesting in the race.
“The rerun of the Kpandai Constituency Parliamentary Election will be conducted for only the three (3) candidates who contested the 2024 Parliamentary Election in the said constituency.”
It said the decision to rerun the election on December 30 also follows the notification sent by the clerk formally notifying the commission of the occurrence of a vacancy in the membership of Parliament; the seat of the constituency in Parliament has become vacant.

Presiding judge Justice Emmanuel Bart Plange Brew directed the Electoral Commission to hold a fresh parliamentary election in the Kpandai Constituency.
The High Court’s decision subsequently led to Parliament’s formal notification to the Electoral Commission of the vacancy in the seat on December 8, 2025.
However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) rejected the order, describing it as “a constitutional abomination” that ignored established electoral principles and effectively rewarded political violence.
He claimed that the High Court failed to apply Section 20 of PNDCL 284, which requires that any irregularities must be significant enough to affect the election results.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, he accused the judge of disregarding Regulation 48(2) of C.I. 127, which states that the absence of a candidate or agent does not invalidate lawful actions of a returning officer.
