The Ghana Education Service (GES) has condemned the assault on a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School.
It has also assured the public that those responsible for the attack will be punished.
This was contained in a statement issued by the GES on Wednesday, December 10, and signed by Daniel Fenyí, Head of Public Relations at GES.
According to the GES, it had seen a video circulating on social media showing Mr Michael Quayson, a teacher at the school, being attacked by a group of past students.
The GES noted that it requested and received an early report on the matter. The report showed that the incident happened on 5 October 2025.
It emerged that the former students allegedly assaulted the teacher “because he was strict on them during the invigilation of the Christian Religious Studies WASSCE 2025 paper.”
“The issue was not reported to the school authority nor GES management until the video recording of the assault circulated on social media.” It added that management had since taken control of the matter and that “investigations are currently ongoing.”
“Management condemns the assault in the strongest terms, as such behaviour is unacceptable, unlawful, and a direct affront to the dignity of the teaching profession,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, GES had also assured the public that the perpetrators would face the full consequences of their actions. “The students shall face the appropriate sanctions provided by law and GES regulations to ensure justice is duly served.”
It further assured teachers across the country, noting its commitment to their safety and the need to maintain discipline during examinations.
“Management assures all teachers nationwide of our full support in instilling discipline and ensuring examination integrity,” it said.
