The Chairman of the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG), Mr. William Osei, also known as Paa Willie, has commended the government for the significant achievements it has secured during its first year in office after winning political power.
He stated that the current administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to re-establishing hope and maintaining economic stability but stressed the need for further support to the public transport sector.
Mr. Osei specifically lauded the administration for stabilizing fuel prices, strengthening the national currency (the cedi), and initiating extensive nationwide road construction projects.
He noted that these measures have substantially eased operational pressures on the association’s members.
However, the association also formally appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider procuring modern vehicles to help significantly boost the public transport system.
He advised the government to sustain its positive performance but simultaneously served notice that C-DAG reserves the right to offer constructive criticism when deemed necessary.
“We are delighted as drivers by what the President has achieved so far. Overall, the performance has been commendable. We have witnessed some stability, and that is a significant positive. However, we want to serve notice that we will not hesitate to offer criticism should his administration begin to fall short of expectations. We are reminding him to deliver on all commitments made during the campaign period. We will continuously keep these promises on the national agenda.”
He also appealed to the government to reinstate the vehicle hire-purchase initiative, which was first launched during his previous term, and to establish a “Drivers’ Day” Celebration, similar to the existing Farmers’ Day Celebration.
We also wish to humbly appeal for the reinstatement of the vehicle hire-purchase system for driver unions, which was successfully implemented during his previous administration. It was a beneficial program that we wish to see replicated. Another proposal to the President is the establishment of an annual ‘Drivers’ Day’ celebration, mirroring the esteemed Farmers’ Day Celebration.”
