Chiefs in the Kpandai constituency in the Northern Region have opposed a directive by the Tamale High Court ordering a rerun of the parliamentary elections in the area, citing concerns over rising tensions and the potential threat to peace in the area.
Speaking at a press conference on December 11, 2025, the Chief of Brajai, Nana Nkpajator, who addressed the media on behalf of traditional leaders, warned that a fresh election could disrupt peace and stability in the constituency.
He appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to respect the people’s will by allowing Mathew Nyindam to remain as their Member of Parliament.
Nana Nkpajator further urged Nyindam’s contender, George Nsala, to prioritize peace and wait for the next electoral cycle. Earlier, residents in the area staged a protest expressing disagreement over the High Court’s order.
They marched through the community, appealing to the chiefs to intervene. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission announced that the rerun would be organized on December 30, 2025.
