The National Peace Council has urged the government to enhance its human resource capacity and staff welfare.
During a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama in Accra, Council Chairman Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu emphasized the need for support.
He disclosed that the Council operates with a mere 83 permanent staff nationwide, which is insufficient given its workload.
According to Rev. Fianu, the Council requires a minimum of 400 personnel to effectively manage regional activities and address over 300 active conflict-related cases nationwide.
He further disclosed that several staff members have left due to inadequate remuneration and limited allowances, hindering the Council’s ability to retain experienced personnel and maintain continuity in peacebuilding initiatives.
Rev. Fianu also noted that outstanding allowances for the previous board, particularly for the third and fourth quarters of 2024, remain unsettled.
Additionally, he expressed dissatisfaction with the sitting allowances for board members, citing the significant commitment and responsibility associated with their roles.
