The Minister of State for Public Sector Reforms, Hon. Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has announced that the Public Records and Archives Administration Department (PRAAD) has successfully digitalised 55,259 archival sheets, exceeding its target of 50,000 sheets in 2024.
Speaking in Parliament, Hon. Akanvariba stated that the digitalisation effort has yielded several benefits, including increased accessibility and sharing of information, support for good governance and accountability, improved preservation of records, faster information retrieval, cost-effectiveness, reduced storage burden on institutions, and enhanced engagement.
However, Hon. Akanvariba expressed concern that the allocation of GH¢138,000 for PRAAD’s digitalisation efforts in 2025 is “woefully inadequate” for the department to effectively carry out its digitalisation project.
The Minister’s remarks highlight the government’s commitment to improving record management and promoting digital governance, while also acknowledging the challenges faced by PRAAD in securing sufficient resources to achieve its objectives.
