The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed reinforcement teams and armoured vehicles to Nalerigu and its environs in the North East Region, a police statement revealed.
According to the Service, the deployment was done following the burning of two houses by some youths in the regional capital, Nalerigu, and threats to burn more houses and attack citizens of Nalerigu.
The police statement explained that the deployment aims to restore calm, protect lives and property.
Additionally, it seeks to beef up security in the affected communities and enforce the curfew imposed on Nalerigu and its environs by the government.
“The teams will also support the North East Regional Police Command to intensify security on the highways to ensure safety of commuters.
The Command would like to assure the general public and the people of Nalerigu in particular that, investigations into the attacks and burning of the houses are ongoing and persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice.”
