Hon. Yakubu Mohammed, the Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East, has revealed that he is facing a barrage of death threats due to his unwavering stance against illegal mining (galamsey) in his constituency.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lawmaker disclosed that he has received numerous threatening audio and text messages.
He further recounted harrowing encounters where armed individuals, allegedly working for illegal mining syndicates, confronted him directly to demand he cease his operations.
Beyond physical intimidation, Hon. Mohammed revealed that there have been several attempts to compromise his integrity through bribery. He stated firmly that he has rejected all financial inducements, asserting, “I am not someone you can buy with money.”
The MP has formally reported these threats to National Security, calling for immediate action against the perpetrators.
His comments follow a viral video showing him confronting a group of Chinese nationals and their Ghanaian accomplices suspected of engaging in illicit mining activities.
”I have received death threats from people who have threatened to kill me,” the MP stated.
“These illegal miners are a threat to our safety and health. I am determined to fight this and stop foreigners from coming here to destroy our environment.”
