The Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced a planned shutdown of the Weija Water Treatment Plant today, Friday, December 19, 2025.
This is to allow for critical maintenance works aimed at improving water service delivery.
A statement issued by the GWCL stated that the plant will be taken out of operation from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to facilitate essential technical works as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the reliability and integrity of its water infrastructure.
Areas that will experience disruption in water supply are Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Weija, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe and surrounding communities.
GWCL has, however, assured the public that adequate resources and logistics have been mobilised to ensure the maintenance works are completed within the scheduled timeframe.
Management added that technical teams will work assiduously to restore operations promptly after the exercise.
GWCL advised persons in the affected areas to store sufficient water ahead of the shutdown to minimise the impact on households, businesses and institutions.
The Managing Director of GWL, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, commenting on the planned exercise, stated that it was crucial and will help sustain the integrity of the company’s water infrastructure and improve service delivery.
“We have deployed all necessary resources and will work diligently to complete the task on schedule,” he said.
Meanwhile, GWCL has apologised for the inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause.
It appealed to the public for cooperation and understanding as it undertakes the works to enhance long-term water supply reliability.
